Have an upfront conversation with owners’ representatives and get your questions answered at SMPS Colorado’s Dec. 13 roundtable luncheon. Firms representing both the public and private sectors will be on hand at this annual event to share information about their roles in projects, how to best work with an owners’ rep, who they’re working with, and potential upcoming projects. SPEAKERS

 

Shawn Ropp, Senior Director
CAA ICON

Shawn Ropp has more than 25 years of experience in the construction management industry and has managed bond infrastructure programs and projects for education and municipal clients valued at over $2 billion. He is a Leadership Denver 2011 graduate and has a deep understanding of the Colorado social, economic and political landscape. Shawn has many years assisting clients with early development phase dimensioning of projects including condition assessment, entitlement, financing, planning, and governing unit approvals. His career is a blend of public sector and consultant experience and he thrives on working on social infrastructure projects that increase human capital in communities. Shawn is currently serving as Development Executive on the CSU Projects at the National Western Center.

 

Greg Toler, Founder & President
CenterPoint

Greg Toler is a Civil Engineer, Commercial Real Estate Developer, Construction Consultant, and entrepreneur. He is the founder and president of CenterPoint Integrated Solutions, a civil engineering and development services consulting firm located in the Denver metro area.

Greg has over 25 years of experience in all phases of commercial project development and has successfully managed the development of over $200MM in construction projects across the nation. Greg founded CenterPoint Integrated Solutions to provide cost and time effective solutions for real estate owners and design teams. CenterPoint offers both civil engineering and development services which can be comprehensive (from trees to keys) or customized to meet the needs of the client.  Greg prefers to start the development services process with site selection as this is a critical phase of development and where many of the total development costs may be overlooked. By working side by side with his clients throughout the entire real estate process, Greg ensures the project’s success.   

 

Gary Cahill, Principal
Dunakilly Management Group 

Gary is an experienced construction management professional with over 32 years’ experience in all aspects of facilities program and project management. He has managed all phases of program management, from entitlement and design management through pre-construction, construction and turnover. He also has extensive design experience including developing project scopes, master planning and scheduling, and design review. Projects have involved both traditional project delivery as well as design-build for office buildings, airports, and other commercial facilities. Notable projects include managing the Better Denver Bond Program, the Charles Schwab Nationwide Expansion Program, and the National Park Service Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract for Construction Management Support Services. Gary earned his diploma of Architecture and Construction at Hawkeye College in Iowa and co-founded Dunakilly Management group in 2007.  An avid outdoorsman, Gary enjoys camping with his family, joining his son on adventures with the Boy Scouts and watching his daughter on the soccer field.    

 

Brad Boyle, Project Manager
Jones Lang LaSalle

At Jones Lang LaSalle, Brad is responsible for management of approximately $20 million in managed costs over a dozen projects. His projects have ranged from tenant improvement build out to new construction and in size from 10,000 square feet to 40,000 square feet.
Brad has successfully implemented project approval strategies for projects requiring City Council approvals, legislative approvals, and State capital construction funding requests and secured economic incentives totaling $3 million from municipalities related to an office relocation and for a higher education user constructing a new campus. Brad also provided feasibility and public/private partnership strategies for the Office of the State Architect in evaluation of a new class-A State office building and works with owners to evaluate their best interests in buy/lease scenarios.

 

Desi Navarro, Project Manager

Desi has extensive school project experience including numerous K12 and higher education projects providing Owner’s Representative/Project Management services. He has first-hand experience with the CDE/BEST Grant Program and the State Permitting Process for Public School Projects. Desi’s strengths include managing multiple stakeholders, project team management, general contractor and sub-contractor procurement and management and implementation of sustainable/environmental initiatives. Desi understands the critical importance to understand the project requirements and constraints to manage the Owner’s risk while maximizing the project’s value. He has experience using a variety of project management and engineering software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera, Excel Cost Tracker, @Risk, Logical Decisions, AutoCAD 2011, RSMeans Cost Works, OnCenter OST, eQuest and MS Project. In Desi’s free time, he enjoys training for and competing in the three different Spartan Fitness challenges throughout the spring and summer.  He also enjoys climbing Colorado 14ers and snowboarding the Winter Park and Copper mountain resorts in the winter.  Desi spends the rest of his free time competing in various men’s basketball leagues throughout the year. 

 

Jessica Killian, Senior Project Manager

Jessica has over 14 years of experience in engineering design, project management, and lender and owner representative services.  This experience includes schedule reviews, cost control processing, project team management, construction document review, contract review, and implementation of owner programs.  Jessica has experience with municipal, educational, residential, commercial, office and mixed use projects nationwide.  Strengths include strong communication skills, knowledge of industry practices and procedures, and a dedicated and thorough approach to all projects. A strong interest in math and buildings led Jessica into architectural engineering, but a desire to work with people and have an impact throughout the development process brought her to project management. When not contributing to the built environment, Jessica enjoys exploring the world with her husband and young daughter, reading, and being an amateur ballerina!

 

Kristen Pyle, Vice President–Contracts, Marketing & Risk
Project One

Kristen Pyle has more than 15 years of experience in the commercial real estate and construction industry. She brings expertise in drafting, negotiating and finalizing contracts for multiple delivery methods (Design/Build, CM/GC Guaranteed Maximum Price, Lump Sum, etc.) including Owner, Architect, and Contractor agreements, standard consulting agreements, intergovernmental arrangements, specialized equipment procurement, development agreements, and lease arrangements with contractual values ranging from $1,000 to $220 million dollars. She works with internal and external counsel and/or advisory teams throughout development of capital improvement projects. Further, her responsibilities at Project One include facilitation of the competitive selection process for team members including Architect, Engineers, Contractors and third party entities. To date, Kristen has worked on 350 projects with Project One.

 

Paul Wember, President
WEMBER

Paul Wember is President of Wember, an owner’s representative firm founded in 2004. Paul is a Colorado-licensed Architect, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in architecture and a MBA. He is a LEED Accreditation Professional and holds OSHA and Contractor Quality Management Certifications. Over the past thirteen years Wember has managed over 85 projects totaling more than $750 million in construction value in Colorado and Wyoming. Current notable projects being managed by Wember include the Greeley Civic Center and the new laboratory for the State of Colorado, Department of Agriculture.
